Move or Remodel? [Infographic]

Tough decisions

Unsatisfied with your living space? Here are three steps to help you decide whether to move or remodel.

Move: Start fresh with a new home

Vs

Remodel: Make new memories with new spaces

Step 1: What’s wrong?

Make a list, and check it twice!

The easiest way to start is to make a list of the pros/cons of your current house. What’s special about the home you’ve already built? What would need to change for it to be perfect?

Step 2: Where to go?

Do your homework.

Are there homes in your area that fit your budget range and needs? If so, moving might be a no-brainer. But bear in mind that charming older homes may be smaller than your current home, and newer homes may be built in subdivisions too far from a central location.

Step 3: How much to remodel?

Count the cost.

Consider the cost of the remodel against the cost of moving. Remodeling Magazine’s annual Cost-vs-Value Report can help you visualize the value added to your home by the type of remodel you are planning, but keep in mind that recouping the full value of your remodel will not likely happen unless you’re planning on staying in your home for the next 7-10 years.

Lipstick or Boom? [Text] One of the most difficult remodeling decisions is: how far should I go? Maybe just a little something will perk up a room and make it feel fresh and new. Often, though, a major overhaul is the only way to scratch your remodeling itch. It’s not...

Remodeling for New Homes [Infographic Article]

When you move into a new home—one that’s new to you, but not newly built—it’s probably in pretty good shape. But chances are, it’s full of amenities, decorations and features that were perfect for the owner who bought the house when it was brand new. You might not like that stuff.

If you’re going to live in that house for many years, you should be comfortable with what’s in it and love to look at it. You should have what you want.

Remodeling is not a project just for older houses. Plenty of newer homes need some touching up. Personalize your house. Show off your good taste. Your home should reflect your personality and lifestyle.
